Events

Our events are a vibrant display of community involvement and support. From charity fundraisers to volunteer gatherings, each moment captured in these images showcases the heartwarming dedication of our team and supporters. Join us in our mission to make a difference in Pueblo!

The Salvation Army Splash Party on August 31, 2024, was a fantastic success, with over 100 individuals in attendance! The Feeding Pueblo Initiative set up a booth and actively participated in the event, handing out free produce, fresh eggs, water bottles, and snacks for everyone to enjoy. We also shared informative flyers about our mission and how the community can get involved. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with local families, spread awareness about food security, and share the bounty of our gardens. We’re thrilled to have been part of such a fun and impactful event!

The kids even got in on the action, enthusiastically volunteering to help run the booth! From handing out snacks to sharing flyers, they were pros at making sure everyone left with something. We might have a few future FPI leaders in the making—watch out, world!

FPI at Pueblo Zoo’s Senior Safari: A Day of Connection and Impact

We are thrilled to share that Feeding Pueblo Initiative Inc. had the wonderful opportunity to set up a booth at the Pueblo Zoo’s Senior Safari event, where over 750 seniors came out to enjoy a day at the zoo and connect with local vendors. 🦓🦒

At our booth, we had the chance to explain our mission to the community, raise awareness about the work we’re doing, and highlight the importance of supporting those in need. We were humbled by the outpouring of interest and generosity, and we’re excited to share that we raised donations toward our cause! 🌱❤️

The Healing Power of Gardening for Seniors

One of the key points we were excited to share at the event was the incredible benefits of gardening for senior citizens. Gardening is not only a rewarding activity but also a powerful way to improve physical, mental, and emotional health. Here are just a few of the ways it can make a difference:

  • Physical Activity: Gardening helps seniors stay active and mobile, providing low-impact exercise that strengthens muscles, improves coordination, and enhances flexibility.
  • Mental Well-being: Engaging with nature through gardening has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, while boosting overall mood. It offers a sense of purpose and accomplishment as they nurture life and see the results of their efforts bloom.
  • Social Interaction: Community gardens bring people together! By participating in gardening activities, seniors can stay socially connected, which is especially important in combating isolation and loneliness.
  • Cognitive Benefits: Gardening stimulates the mind, encouraging problem-solving and planning, which can help sharpen cognitive functions and improve memory retention.
  • Healthy Eating: Growing fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs promotes healthy eating habits, providing seniors with access to nutritious, home-grown food.

As we reflect on the success of this event, we’re excited about the many ways we can continue to grow and expand our efforts. Feeding Pueblo Initiative remains dedicated to creating sustainable, long-term solutions to hunger in our community, and we can’t do it without the support of our volunteers, donors, and partners.

A huge thank you to the Pueblo Zoo for hosting such a fantastic and impactful event, and to everyone who stopped by our booth to learn more about what we do. Together, we’re creating a brighter, more compassionate future for Pueblo.

Nurturing Parenting at Catholic Charities

Teaching sustainable gardening at Nurturing’s Parenting is an incredibly rewarding experience. Introducing children to the principles of growing their own food not only fosters a sense of responsibility but also connects them to nature and their food sources. By learning how to care for plants, children gain hands-on experience with concepts like patience, nurturing, and the value of sustainability. They begin to understand the importance of preserving the environment and develop skills they can use for life.

Gardening as a family activity builds strong bonds and creates memories that can last a lifetime. Overall, it’s deeply fulfilling to see the children’s excitement and curiosity grow, and to know that you’re teaching skills that will help them thrive in a more sustainable future.

Riverwalk Farmers Market

Today, we set up at the Riverwalk Farmers Market to gather donations and spread awareness about the mission of The Feeding Pueblo Initiative. It was a wonderful day, and we had the opportunity to meet so many amazing people from our community.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello and support our cause! Your generosity and interest in what we do helps us continue our work of providing fresh, locally grown produce to those in need.

We look forward to seeing you at the next market!
